John Piggott is the Managing Director of JPEC Ltd. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Energy Institute, the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers and the Association for Project Management.

He has been a professional energy engineer since 1989 when he graduated from the University of Leeds with a Batchelors degree in Fuel & Energy Engineering. The first 8 years of his career was spent in operations and project delivery for Associated Heat Services, the first contract energy management company in the UK and the first ancestor of what is now Veolia Energy. Working both in London and the Nottingham coal fields, he gained hands on experience of steam power plant, heat networks, combined heat and power and building services. He was based on site at the Guinness brewery at Park Royal for 2 years where he developed a passion for energy efficient process engineering.

Since then, John has spent almost 20 years in consultancy and has worked for some of the biggest engineering names in the UK. At AECOM he built a sucessfull team delivering design and project management services primarily aimed at buildings. At Arup he led the energy engineering team based in London and was responsible for distributed energy projects in Nottingham, Newcastle, Milton Keynes and London. Having successfully built the city energy business at Atkins he left to set up his own company in 2016.

John’s speciality is the conceptualization and delivery of energy projects. Modern energy projects exist in a highly complex environment of technology, regulation and economics. As well as a highly experienced engineer, John is also an extremely effective commercial management consultant. This enables him to evaluate technical and contractual options and get the best value solution for clients.
